Two audiences, one page
This page covers two different situations, and they work completely differently, so we keep them clearly separated: (a) restaurant customers — you ordered food from a restaurant that runs on Dishlane and want a refund for that order; and (b) restaurants — you pay Dishlane a subscription (or bought a founding lifetime seat) and want to cancel, or to ask about refunds on that.
Restaurant customers: who your contract is with
When you order food through a restaurant website that runs on Dishlane, you are buying from that restaurant, not from us. The restaurant sets the menu and prices, takes your payment on its own payment account (Stripe, Square or PayPal), and is the business responsible for the order.
Dishlane never holds your money — payments go from you to the restaurant’s own payment account directly. That also means Dishlane cannot issue a refund of a food order itself: the refund has to come from the restaurant, because the restaurant has your money.
So if something went wrong with an order, contact the restaurant first — its contact details are on the website you ordered from. That is not us fobbing you off; it is genuinely the only party that can move the money back.
Restaurant customers: how a refund actually works
When a restaurant refunds your order, here is exactly what happens in the current version of the platform:
- The refund is initiated by the restaurant owner from their dashboard — there is no self-service refund button for customers.
- Refunds are full-amount only in the current version. Partial refunds are not yet supported; where a partial amount is appropriate, the restaurant handles it directly with you.
- The money is returned on the restaurant’s own payment account (Stripe, Square or PayPal) — the same rails your payment came in on.
- Your order is marked refunded only when the payment provider’s signed webhook confirms the refund actually happened — never optimistically. If the order still shows as paid, the provider has not yet confirmed the money moved.
Restaurants: cancelling your subscription
Platform subscriptions are monthly, 3-month or yearly. There is no contract lock-in: you can cancel anytime, and your service runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. Nothing renews behind your back after you cancel.
Restaurants: founding lifetime seats
Founding lifetime seats are one-time purchases, limited to 25 seats ever. They are not subscriptions, so there is nothing recurring to cancel.
Refunds on subscriptions and founding seats
Your statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page.
Beyond those rights, we are not going to invent a refund window in a draft: specific refund handling for subscription payments and founding seats is agreed case-by-case while the final terms are being completed by counsel — the draft banner at the top of this page covers exactly this. If you want to discuss a refund, email us and a human will work it out with you.
